• Descent (complex cases): Files requiring extensive research (old archives, indirect evidence), involving multiple generations, or presenting administrative complications (missing documents, transcriptions) can easily exceed 3 years, or even more.
• Marriage / Naturalization: These processes are generally longer and strictly depend on meeting the legal requirements (duration of effective residence, etc.).

Yes, tracking is possible, although it requires method and perseverance. It is essential to carefully keep a complete copy of your submitted file as well as the official deposit receipt, which usually contains a reference number.

Regular follow-up with the competent administration (court clerk's office, consular service) is recommended to inquire about the progress. However, be aware that responses can be brief and processing times sometimes long.

In case of an explicit refusal decision (or sometimes implicit after a long silence), do not be discouraged. Avenues for appeal exist (appeal, cassation appeal depending on the case) to challenge the decision before higher courts.

According to the current Nationality Code (since the 2007 reform), a child born to a Moroccan father OR a Moroccan mother is Moroccan. Transmission through the mother is therefore equivalent to that through the father. Acquisition is generally automatic by right but requires registration in the Moroccan civil registry to be effective.

Note: For children born to a Moroccan mother and a foreign father before the 2007 reform, nationality was not automatic. Specific procedures for declaration or application by the mother or the child upon reaching majority exist to recognize this nationality (Article 6 of the Code).

It is important to note that Kafala (legal guardianship in Moroccan and Islamic law, which is not a plenary adoption severing original lineage) does not automatically confer Moroccan nationality on the fostered child (makfoul). Involuntary loss of Moroccan nationality is very rare and strictly regulated by law. It can only occur in specific cases provided for by the Nationality Code (e.g., voluntary acquisition of a foreign nationality with an express request to lose Moroccan nationality before certain dates, holding public office for a foreign state without authorization, serious acts against state security...).

It is possible to voluntarily request to renounce Moroccan nationality (act of repudiation), for example, if another nationality requires it. However, this renunciation is never automatic.
